RightMinds Moves to Historic Main Street Station
Richmond, VA (December 2006)–For more than a century, the timeline of Main Street Station has spanned every important milestone from the Model T and the Jazz Age to Generation Y and the Internet Revolution. Now this celebrated local landmark begins an exciting new chapter in its rich history: the RightMinds Era.

RightMinds, a Richmond-based marketing, advertising and consulting firm, moved into the upper floors of Main Street Station in mid-December 2006, following a two-year renovation by the City of Richmond in partnership with RightMinds. The move marks the first time that Main Street Station, located at 1500 E. Main Street in the heart of the city’s creative community, is home to an ad agency.

“We’re thrilled to announce that RightMinds has taken up residence in Main Street Station,” said Chris Thurston, CEO of RightMinds. “The building has such a distinctive character and style, and we look forward to adding our own special flair while preserving the structure’s historical integrity.”

After six years in the Scott’s Addition area of Richmond, RightMinds was bursting at the seams with almost 50 in-house employees and a number of outside consultants from several states such as North Carolina, Georgia and California. At Main Street Station, RightMinds occupies 12,000 square feet on the third and fourth floors, in addition to a fifth floor mezzanine with a 35-foot cathedral ceiling.

Features of the new office space at RightMinds include Virtual Receptionist technology to welcome visitors and direct them to the agency’s main lobby on the fourth floor, state-of-the-art Reach™ workstations from Allsteel designed for maximum functionality and storage efficiency, Sum™ task chairs from Allsteel with automated ergonomics, and conference rooms located in the well of the famous six-story clock tower, among other innovative architectural touches.

“Main Street Station offers an ideal setting for a company of big thinkers like RightMinds,” said The Honorable L. Douglas Wilder, Mayor of the City of Richmond. “Agencies thrive in a creative environment and Main Street Station is a monument to originality, with its terra cotta roof, ornate dormers and 110-foot clock tower. Transforming the interior space for a modern, high-tech ad agency was a challenge, but we are delighted with the results. This beautiful building is now an impressive work of art, both inside and out.”

Main Street Station opened in 1901 and, for more than 50 years, was the transportation focal point of the state’s capital. The terminal closed in 1975, but reopened in 2003 as train service returned to downtown Richmond. In 1983, Main Street Station was ravaged by fire, and floodwaters have periodically plagued the station’s parking lot in Shockoe Bottom. But the imposing and handsome structure, hailed as a masterpiece of French Renaissance architecture, was rescued each time. This stately sentinel along the I-95 corridor will continue to operate as a working passenger rail station.

“As RightMinds continues to grow and expand as a network of experts in marketing and brand consulting, we’re honored to be linked forever with the history of Main Street Station,” added Thurston.
